Quigley Leads Cats at First Fall Tourney

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Kentucky men's tennis sophomore Eric Quigley led the Wildcats in Virginia's Ranked One Invitational this past weekend by bouncing back to win two back draw finals in Charlottesville, Va..
Quigley, ranked No. 70 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings defeated Ryan Noble of North Carolina 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the back draw semifinal of A-1 singles. In the semis he defeated former Wildcat Will Beck of Virginia Tech 7-5, 6-1. In the consolation final, Quigley topped Indiana's Maxime Armengaud 3-6, 7-6, 10-3.
Quigley also won the A-4 doubles back draw final, paired up with junior Brad Cox. The No. 24 tandem in the nation routed Louisville's Maksimcuk and Carter 8-1 in the back draw semifinal. In the consolation final, Cox and Quigley knocked off Wieteska and Marchese of Duke, 8-5.
Sophomore Alex Musialek also advanced to two back draw finals this weekend. The native of France knocked off Krisztian Kracsko of Virginia Commonwealth then beat Nebraska's Francois VanImpe in the A-3 singles back draw semifinal 6-3, 6-3. In the final, Musialek lost a tight match with No. 86 Dylan Arnould of Duke in a third-set superbreaker 7-6, 5-7, 13-11. In doubles, Musialek paired with junior Alberto Gonzalez to make the A-1 doubles back draw final. The Cats beat Nebraska's VanImpe and Paar 8-3 in the semis but lost in extra games in the final to Indiana's Ferguson and Armengaud 9-7.
Cox and Gonzalez split their matches in singles this weekend. In A-4 singles, Cox defeated David Hopkins of Wake Forest 7-6, 4-6, 12-10 before coming up short against Nebraska's Benedikt Lindheim 6-4, 7-6. Gonzalez fell in three sets to David Holland of Duke 3-6, 6-1, 10-5 but ended the tournament on a high note, defeating No. 118 Jon Wolff of Wake Forest 4-6, 7-5, 10-7.
The Wildcats continue their fall season this weekend at the All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
