Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Kentucky men's tennis team faced stiff competition on the first day of its opening fall tournament - the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., Friday.

Sophomore Eric Quigley, ranked No. 70 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings fell to Nebraska's Calin Parr 6-4, 6-4 in singles flight A-1. In singles flight A-2, junior Alberto Gonzalez came up short against the top-seed Sanaam Singh of UVA, ranked ninth in the nation, 6-2, 6-1.

Sophomore Alex Musialek went three sets with Duke's Henrique Cunha in singles flight A-3. The Blue Devil won the first set 6-4 before Musialek took the second 6-3. In the deciding set, Musialek served for the match at 5-4 but Cunha came back to edge the Wildcat 7-6 for the win. In singles flight A-4, junior Brad Cox lost to No. 125 Luka Somen of Virginia Tech 6-2, 7-6.

In doubles flight A-4 the No. 24 team of Cox and Quigley, seeded second, was edged 9-8 by William and Mary's tandem of Juneau and Vidal. Musialek and Gonzalez teamed up in doubles flight A-1 against the Wake Forest team of Forman and Atkinson but fell by the same score of 9-8.

The Wildcats continue play through Sunday at the tournament.
