Feb. 11, 2013

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky men's tennis team will look to pick up wins number seven and eight on the season on Tuesday afternoon as the Wildcats will take on No. 29 Notre Dame and Eastern Kentucky in a doubleheader at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center. UK's showdown with Notre Dame will start at 1:00 p.m. ET, with the EKU match scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. ET.

"It's good to be back at home," UK head coach Cedric Kauffmann said. "We know both Notre Dame and Eastern Kentucky are going to provide us with excellent challenges that we are ready for. They are both excellent teams and we are looking forward to the opportunity to get better."

The Wildcats are currently 6-1 on the season, already recording three wins over top-25 teams, and four wins over teams currently comprised in the ITA's top 50. The Wildcats are undefeated at home this season, with a 5-0 mark at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Center in Lexington.

UK sneaked out a 4-3 win in South Bend a year ago over the Irish, as the Wildcats upped their record to 16-12-1 all-time versus Notre Dame since the two played their first match back in 1928. Kentucky's win at the time over ND in 2012 catapulted UK to a 9-0 record at the time.

Notre Dame in 2013 is currently ranked No. 29 in the nation and boasts a 5-3 record, as the Fighting Irish have also already played six teams ranked in the ITA top 50. ND has recorded wins over No. 31 Memphis and No. 48 Michigan State as their two best wins, both of which coming on the road.

Eastern Kentucky enters Tuesday's contest with a 3-4 record, as the Colonels are coming off a 7-0 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers. EKU has also played No. 19 Tennessee on the season, as the UK match will mark the second Southeastern Conference opponent that EKU will face in 2013.
