LEXINGTON, Ky. - Fresh off a dominating sweep in a tripleheader with Toledo, Xavier and University of the Cumberlands, the No. 12 Kentucky men's tennis team hits the road for the first time this season, traveling to take on border-state rival No. 46 Indiana at 1 p.m. ET in Bloomington, Ind., on Tuesday
Kentucky (3-0) is coming off three wins to open up the 2011 spring schedule, getting impressive play in singles from a variety of options. Senior Brad Cox led the Wildcats with three singles wins in the tripleheader sweep followed by two wins each from senior Alberto Gonzalez and freshmen Maks Gold, Alejandro Gomez, Ryuji Hirooka and Grant Roberts.
UK also played well in its lone doubles action of the year so far, sweeping all three doubles matches against Toledo. Frenchmen Anthony Rossi and Alex Musialek won at No. 1 doubles for Kentucky, while Roberts and Gonzalez won at No. 2 doubles and Gomez and Gold won at No. 3 doubles.
The Wildcats send a highly-ranked singles lineup into Bloomington led by junior Eric Quigley who is ranked second in the country in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason singles poll. Quigley did not play in Kentucky's tripleheader but is expected to fill the No. 1 singles position against the Hoosiers. The two schools last met in 2009 with Kentucky notching a 6-1 win at home, while Indiana took the last meeting in Bloomington 4-3 in 2008.
