LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s soccer head coach Johan Cedergren was named Conference USA Coach of the year on Tuesday. UK goalkeeper Callum Irving picked up three individual accolades, headlining a Wildcat-studded list of awards for the 2014 season.
Callum Irving all-but swept the player awards as he was voted C-USA Player of the Year and Defensive Most Valuable Player, in addition to earning the Golden Glove Award for notching the most shutouts in league play (five). He also was named to the All-Conference First Team.
Cedergren is the first UK coach to be voted C-USA Coach of the Year (UK has been in C-USA in men’s soccer since 2005). UK last had a head coach named Conference Coach of the year in 2001 while the team played in the Mid-American Conference.
Irving is UK’s first-ever C-USA Player of the Year. He’s the first Wildcat to earn conference player of the year since Jamal Shteiw did so in the MAC in 2004.
