Perinovic, Wilder Named C-USA All-Tournament
Nov. 11, 2012
HOOVER, Ala. – After helping push Kentucky into the Conference Tournament semifinals, junior defender Steven Perinovic and senior midfielder Cameron Wilder have been named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team, it was announced by the league office on Sunday afternoon.
The UK duo was announced to the All-Tournament Team following Tulsa’s 4-0 win over No. 19 SMU in the C-USA Championship on Sunday. UK finished third in the C-USA Tournament as a result of a 1-0 win over Memphis in the quarterfinals and a 2-2 draw vs. SMU in the semifinals, with the Mustangs advancing to the title game on penalty kicks.
Perinovic, a first-team All-Conference USA selection at center back for the Wildcats, was a force in the middle of the backline in the two-game tournament. The Delafield, Wis., native has started all 20 games in 2012 for UK, totaling one goal on 10 shots, with his tally coming as the game winner vs. East Tennessee State.
A native of Kennesaw, Ga., Wilder and Matt Lodge have served as UK’s senior co-captains in 2012. Wilder has excelled for UK in the midfield, with his constant work rate and high-energy motor stabilizing the Wildcats. In the game vs. SMU, Wilder nabbed his first career goal in his 69th career game. On the year, Wilder – a second-team All-Conference USA honoree – has started all 20 games with a goal on 14 shots.
Kentucky (10-8-2) awaits a potential NCAA Tournament at-large bid, to be announced on NCAA.com at 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday afternoon. UK entered the C-USA Tournament with the No. 26 RPI and the No. 13 strength of schedule in the NCAA. UK has set school records for games against top-25 foes and top-25 wins, and own the most road wins since the 1995 UK season.
