Oct. 22, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After recording four goals in two games during the week, Kentucky men’s soccer junior Dylan Asher has been selected national player of the week by College Soccer News, it was announced on Monday morning.
A native of Richardson, Texas, Asher made his first two career starts at forward during the week, with leading scorer Tyler Riggs out due to injury. Asher responded with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at 10-win Marshall on Wednesday night, before having a career game in UK’s third straight win, a 5-1 smashing of FIU on Sunday night. The junior netted goals in the third, 41st and 57th minutes for the eighth hat trick in program history.
Asher, a two-time All-Conference USA defender and a freshman All-America honoree in 2010, had the most prolific week of any player in collegiate soccer, leading the Wildcats to their third consecutive win. After starting 1-4 in 2012, Kentucky is 7-2-1 over its last 10 games and entered the week owning the No. 33 RPI in the NCAA and the 21st hardest schedule in the nation.
Kentucky (8-6-1, 3-1-1 Conference USA) returns to action with a matchup with Tulsa on Saturday on the road, with kickoff slated for 8 p.m. ET.
