Riggs Named C-USA Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After netting three goals in the first two games of the season, Kentucky men’s soccer sophomore Tyler Riggs has been named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs had a dynamic weekend in leading UK to season-opening wins over Dayton and No. 9 Michigan, coming off the bench in both contests to lead UK with three total goals.

Riggs netted the game-winning goals in both games on opening weekend, including getting the Wildcats on the board in a win over Dayton on Friday night in front of nearly 1,400 fans. On Sunday, UK faced a 1-0 hole in the 78th minute when Riggs struck for a goal off the bench. Just under four minutes later, Riggs struck for the game-winning goal on a breakaway for his first career multi-goal game.

A product of St. Xavier in Louisville, Riggs’ two-goal game marked the 56th all-time multi-goal game in UK men’s soccer history, leading UK to its first win over a top-10 ranked opponent since beating No. 1 SMU in 2007. As a freshman All-Conference USA selection in 2010, Riggs led UK with five goals last season.

The Wildcats (2-0-0) return to action on Friday, hosting Wright State at 7:30 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
