Lara Named Morehead State Assistant
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After a distinguished career as a student-athlete at Kentucky and serving as a student assistant coach for the men’s soccer program, Bingy Lara has been named the new assistant women’s soccer coach at Morehead State University, it was announced.
Lara will be joining head coach Warren Lipka’s coaching staff, along with another former UK men’s soccer standout, Jeremy Groves. Similar to Lara, Groves spent multiple years working as an additional assistant coach on coach Ian Collins’ staff following his time as a student-athlete for the Wildcats. Morehead State is coming off back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference regular-season championship.
“The time I spent at UK has helped me develop as a coach and has prepared me for my next position with the women's team here at Morehead,” Lara said. “I am thankful for the opportunities and experience that Ian Collins, Jeff Chaney and Matt Wilkerson have given me, as well as the support I have received from everyone in the athletic department. What I have learned at UK will stay with me forever and I am excited to continue my coaching career at Morehead.”
During his playing career at UK, Lara helped anchor the midfield from 2005-08. A native of Las Cruces, N.M., Lara played in 47 career games for UK, totaling two goals and four assists. As a senior in 2008, Lara tallied one goal and two assists. A 2008 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll selection, Lara spent the last two years assisting with the day-to-day management of the program and assisting with on-field coaching, while completing his degree in psychology.
“I’m excited for Bingy and this next step in his life,” Collin said. “I remember him as freshman and it wasn’t a pretty sight! He has grown and flourished and will do a great job for Morehead and their program. He will always have a special place with our program and will be remembered with great fondness.”
