No. 11 Hoosiers Snap UK's Unbeaten Streak

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Eriq Zavaleta charted two goals and added two assists to lead No. 11 Indiana to a 4-1 win over the Kentucky men's soccer team and snap the Wildcats five-match unbeaten stretch, on a gorgeous Wednesday night at the UK Soccer Complex.
Kentucky (5-5-1) had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped with the setback, ending UK's longest undefeated stretch since the 2009 season. Indiana used goals in the fourth, 45th, 67th and 80th minutes to build its lead, with UK getting a Tyler Riggs goal in the 86th frame and Matt Lodge hitting the IU crossbar as time expired in regulation.
Zavaleta, a sophomore forward, had a dominant game, netting the first and third goals of the game for the Hoosiers and assisting on the second and fourth goals. Femi Hollinger-Janzen netted the second goal of the game for IU and Andrew Oliver netted his second of the year in the 80th frame.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Riggs netted his team-leading seventh of the year late in the game, giving him 23 goals and 55 points in his career to rank sixth in goals and seventh in points in UK career annals. Through 11 games this season, Riggs has seven goals and four assists.
The game marked UK's fifth top-25 opponent of the year, as the Wildcats have also faced No. 25 Northwestern, No. 15 St. John's, No. 4 Charlotte and sprang a 1-0 win at No. 18 Louisville.
Lodge, a senior and the UK career record holder for shots, finished with a team-high four shots in the game, finishing the contest by plunking the cross bar as time expired. Riggs, Dylan Asher, Steven Perionvic and Charley Pettys each registered shots, with Pettys and Kemper assisting on the Riggs goal.
Indiana (8-2-1) keeper Luis Soffner turned in a splendid game for the Hoosiers, who entered the game with a stellar 0.48 goals-against average. Soffner saved three shots in the game, while UK keeper Jack Van Arsdale finished with four saves.
IU finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.
Kentucky will return to action with a conference match at SMU in Dallas on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
Indiana took a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, as Zavaleta found the ball inside the UK 18-yard box. Zavaleta turned a fired a low-lining shot past UK's diving keeper at the far post. The goal was Zavaleta's team-leading eighth of the year. Matt McKain was awarded the assist, his first of the year.
The Hoosiers added a goal in the 45th minute just before the half to take a 2-0 lead. Zavaleta played a ball to Hollinger-Janzen, who took a hard-hit strike from the corner of the 18 across the box and in at the far post.
In the 67th minute, the Hoosiers stretched their lead to 3-0 with the second goal of the game from Zavaleta. The ball was played into the box and with some quick footwork by Zavaleta he struck with his right, finding the near post.
In the 80th minute, A.J. Corrado for the Hoosiers played a through-ball to Oliver who squeezed through the UK defense for a one-on-one opportunity with Van Arsdale. Oliver chipped the ball to the far post, putting the Hoosiers ahead 4-0.
Kentucky got on the board in the 86th minute, as Pettys lofted a ball into the box on the near side where Kemper put a touch pass to a waiting Riggs. The junior headed it into the back of the net to register the final score of the match.
GAME NOTES: UK had its five-match unbeaten streak snapped with the game, its longest since 2009 ... UK faced its fifth top-25 opponent of the 2012 season and now owns a 1-4 record against ranked foes ... Indiana leads the series 17-1-3 all-time and has a 7-0-2 lead in the series in games played in Lexington ... Junior Tyler Riggs netted his team-high seventh goal of the game and his 23rd of his career ... Riggs now passes Matt Lodge for sixth-most all-time in UK career history and ranks seventh - behind Lodge - with 55 career points ... Lodge extended his school-record for shots in a career to 172 with a club-high four-shot effort.
