Belden Named to SEC Fall Golf Honor Roll

Nov. 23, 2010

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s golf senior Brian Belden has been named to the Southeastern Conference’s Fall Golf Honor roll which honors some of the best performances from the fall, the league office announced recently.

The Emmaus, Pa., native scored a very impressive fall campaign for the Wildcats, scoring four top-20 finishes and one top-10 finish. Having played in all five fall events for Kentucky, Belden finished in the top 20 in the last four tournaments, including a top-10 finish at the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational. The senior’s streak of top-20 finishes started with a 15th-place showing at the Gary Koch Intercollegiate, followed by his best result of the fall at the Philly Big 5 tournament, tied for 19th at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate and tied for 13th at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate.

Belden leads Kentucky with a 72.54 season stroke average and has the lowest 18-hole and 54-hole rounds on the team at 69 and 215 respectively.  The 72.54 season stroke average is the lowest of his career by two strokes. Belden ended the fall with lots of momentum, having scored even-par or under-par scores in three of his last four rounds.

“This is a great honor for Brian and one that is well deserved,” UK men’s golf head coach Brian Craig said. “Brian is a leader on this team and hopefully some of the other guys will feed off his good play as of late and we can put together a good spring.”

Belden and the rest of the Kentucky team will return to the course on Feb. 21-22 at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Golf Club in Mobile, Ala.
