Men's Golf: Wildcats Old, New Wrap up 2010 Kentucky Open
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The 2010 Kentucky Open at Lexington Country Club had, as expected, a UK feel as former University of Kentucky men’s golf stars Ben Fuqua and Andrew Stephens finished the tournament at 6-under-par 210 to finish the 54-hole event tied for third Thursday. Several other Wildcats made the cut at one of the most prestigious golf events in Kentucky.
Fuqua, a senior on the 2009-10 team, shot even par or better each round, including his 4-under-par 68 in the final round. Fuqua started the tournament with a 2-under-par 70 before posting an even-par score in round two. The low score of 68 was one of the best rounds of the day for the Wildcat.
Stephens scored the lowest round of the tournament with his 6-under-par 66 in the closing round to jump up the leaderboard and into the top 10. Stephens sat at even par heading into the final round after scoring a 2-over-par 74 in the opening round and a 2-under-par 70 in the second round.
Current Wildcats Joseph Barr, Cody Martin, Chase Carpenter and Seth Blann each made the cut. Barr scored the best finish with a three-day total of even par 216, finishing tied for 12th. Martin, who posted a 70 in the opening round, was tied for 23rd at 4-over-par for the tournament. Carpenter ended the tournament at 6-over-par and tied for 33rd while Blann carded a 54-hole score of 11-over-par and was tied for 63rd.
Former Wildcats Grover Justice and Jordan Blann wrap up the scoring for Kentucky, with Justice finishing tied for eighth with a final score of 2-under-par 214 and Jordan Blann in a tie for 41st.
