Snyder Leads Wildcats in First Round Action

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman University of Kentucky men’s golfer David Snyder continued his strong play Saturday, pacing the Wildcats with a first round 1-over par 73 at the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.

Snyder, who competed in the men’s golf team lineup for the first time two weeks ago, finishing in the top 30, carded an opening round 73 and sits in a tie for 16th. Snyder holds a stroke average of 73.00 in his last three rounds.

As a team, Kentucky shot an opening round 12-over par 300 and is in a tie for 12th. Sophomore Stephen Powers shot a 3-over par 75, while juniors Joseph Barr and Chase Parker each shot 4-over par and are in a tie for 44th. Junior Cody Martin carded an opening-round 79.

The tournament, held in Greensboro, N.C., was scheduled to be a 54-hole tournament, but has since been shortened to 36 holes after a large amount of rain hit the Greensboro area. The remaining 18 holes will be played Sunday, with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. ET.

The UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate features a quality 15-team field, including seven teams ranked in Golfstat.com’s top 100. In addition to Kentucky and host-school UNC-Greensboro, Georgia State, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Purdue, South Carolina, Toledo, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech will be competing for the tournament crown.

South Carolina tops the team leader board with a 3-over par 291. Patrick Barrett of North Carolina and Albin Choi of North Carolina State are tied atop the player leader board at 2-under par.
