LEXINGTON, Ky. – Led by a first round 3-under par 69 from junior Chase Parker, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team finished the first round of the inaugural Collegiate Classic in fifth place. Parker finds himself in the top 20 at the end of Monday’s opening 36 holes, and the Wildcats, as a team, sit in ninth.

An Augusta, Ga., native and former Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team selection, Parker tied his season-low score of 69 in the first round at Berkeley Hills Country Club (par 72, 6,694 yards). Parker shot a 6-over par 78 in the second round to finish day one in a tie for 19th at 3-over par.

Kentucky, as a team, shot an 8-over par 296 in the first round, and followed it up with a 12-over par 300. The Wildcats enter Tuesday’s final round in ninth place. Tuesday’s round will begin at 8:00 a.m. ET with pairings teeing off from Nos. 1 and 10 every nine minutes. Kentucky will begin from the 10th tee starting at 8:27 a.m.

Junior Joseph Barr, who finished in a tie for third with Parker at the Bearcat Invitational last week, finished the first day with a combined score of 6-over par 150. Barr carded an opening round of 73 and followed it with a 77 and sits in 29th.

Sophomore Stephen Powers will enter the final round in a tie for 39th after finishing the first day with 7-over par 151. Powers shot a 4-over par 76 in the first round and a 3-over par 75 in the second round.

The Collegiate Classic field consists of a dozen teams and 75 players.
