Erin, Wisc. - Junior Todd McDaniel fired a season-low 75 to conclude round one of the Erin Hills Intercollegiate in 11th place overall to lead the Kentucky men's golf team on Sunday.

McDaniel birdied No. 1 and No. 14 in his round of 18 on the opening day of competition at the Erin Hills Golf Course, site of the 2017 U.S. Open.

"Nothing can deter my belief in this team, but we simply have to play better than we played today," UK coach Brian Craig said. "Erin Hills simply wore us out today. We have 36 holes remaining and we need to bounce back, and I fully expect us to do so."

Conditions were not ideal on the opening day of play, as players faced an hour long delay for frost to begin the day. Additionally, temperatures did not top 50 degrees throughout the round.

Kentucky finished the day in 10th place, a mere two strokes off Northern Illinois and St. John's who are tied for eighth. UCLA leads the field, but only five strokes ahead of the host-team Marquette.

Freshman Tyler `Chip' McDaniel finished the day in a tie for 27th with a 77. Senior Will Bishop is tied for 34th following a 78. Junior Harrison Greenberry (T46), junior David Snyder (T51) and freshman Cooper Musselman (T51) round out the scorers for the Blue and White on the opening day of competition.

The teams will play 18 holes on Monday and Tuesday with tee times beginning from 8:30-10:10 a.m. CT off the first and 10th tees on the par-72 course to conclude the 54-hole event.

Erin Hills, which opened in 2006, was the site of the 111th U.S. Amateur Championship in 2011, and is set to host the 2017 U.S. Open. The golf course was ranked No. 10 in Golf Digest's latest list of America's 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses. Marquette University, also serving as tournament host in 2014, hosted the first-ever collegiate event at Erin Hills in October 2013.
