Wildcats Tied for Seventh after First Round of SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – First round action of the Southeastern Conference Championship wrapped up on Friday afternoon at the Sea Island Golf Club with the University of Kentucky men’s golf team currently tied for seventh place at 7-over par, 287. Second round play begins Saturday at 7:30 a.m. ET.
No. 1 Alabama sits atop the standings at 8-under par, 272, while Auburn (-6), No. 6 Georgia (-3), No. 24 South Carolina (-3) and No. 21 Arkansas (E) complete the top five. Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt and South Carolina’s Matthew NeSmith are at the top of the player leaderboard at 5-under par, 65.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were No. 22 LSU (+4), UK (+7), Mississippi State (+7), Missouri (+8), No. 15 Vanderbilt (+8), No. 16 Texas A&M (+8), Tennessee (+9), Ole Miss (+12) and Florida (+12).
“We battled today and were close to having an excellent round,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “David Snyder played a really solid round on a windy day to help keep us competitive. We need a total team effort tomorrow as we head into the second round.”
Posting the lone under par round on Friday for Kentucky, junior David Snyder leads the group of Wildcats at 1-under par, 69. Snyder is in good position after the first day in a tie for 11th place. Senior Ben Stow is tied for 21st after a 1-over par, 71, on Friday.
Sophomore Harrison Greenberry carded a first round score of 3-over par, 73, to place him in a tie for 39th. Sitting a stroke behind and tied for 50th is senior Stephen Powers at 4-over par, 74. Senior Cody Martin rounds out the UK lineup after a 5-over par, 75, which ties him for 59th.
