Men's Golf Tied for Ninth at SEC Championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s golf team shot 14-over-par Saturday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championship, played at St. Simons Island, Ga., on the Seaside Course (par 70, 6,898 yards), and is tied for ninth entering Sunday’s final round.

The Wildcats were led by junior Joseph Barr, who shot a 1-under-par 69 and enters Sunday’s final round tied for 13th at even-par. Saturday’s round was Barr’s 10th round of even- or under-par this year. The Versailles, Ky., native is competing in his first-ever SEC Championship.

Sophomore Stephen Powers, who led Kentucky in the first round with an even-par 70, shot a 1-over-par 71 on Saturday. Powers is currently tied for 18th. Powers finished in a tie for 19th last year at the SEC Championship at 7-over-par.

Junior Chase Parker is tied for 43rd after a 6-over-par 76 moved the Augusta, Ga., native to 7-over-par for the championship. Sophomore Cody Martin is in 50th at 10-over par, shooting an 8-over-par 78 Saturday. Freshman David Snyder is at 16-over-par for the championship after carding an 81 Saturday.

Each of the Wildcats will tee off from No. 10 on Sunday. Snyder will begin Kentucky’s final round at 8:20 a.m. ET. Martin, Parker, Powers and Barr will follow, respectively, in 10-minute intervals.

Five teams from the SEC are ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin top 25, including No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Auburn, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 17 LSU and No. 23 Florida. Georgia checks in just outside of the top 25 this week at No. 26.

Alabama leads the tournament by 11 strokes after carding a 6-under-par 274. Auburn and Georgia are tied for second at 3-under-par. Alabama’s Bobby Wyatt and Tennessee’s Rick Lamb are tied atop the players leaderboard at 6-under-par.
