Martin Posts Top-25 Finish at Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky men’s golf freshman Cody Martin posted his third top-25 finish of the spring season as the Wildcats finished 14th in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C., on Tuesday.
Martin was again impressive for Kentucky, scoring the lowest round of the day for the Wildcats with a 1-over-par 72. The native of Union, Ky., earned three birdies in the final round to finish the 54-hole event in a tie for 24th at 3-over-par 216. The three-day score of 216 is the lowest of the season for Martin, who now has finished as UK’s top two golfers in every tournament this spring. Martin has now posted top-25 scores in three of the four spring tournaments, including a fourth-place finish at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.
Fellow freshman Stephen Powers followed Martin with a 2-over-par 73 Tuesday, putting him in a tie for 44th at tournaments end with a season-low 54-hole score of 8-over-par 221. The native of Naperville, Ill., carded three birdies in the final round and eight for the tournament.
Sophomore Chase Parker and junior Mads Kristensen finished in a tie for 51st and tie for 55th, respectively. Parker carded a 5-over-par 76 in the final round to finish the tournament at 10-over-par 223, while Kristensen notched a 4-over-par 75 Tuesday to end the event at 13-over-par.
Senior Brian Belden wraps up the UK rotation by earning a 3-over-par 74 in the third round, finishing in 74th.
As a team, the Wildcats finished in 14th. Southeastern Conference foe LSU won the team title with a 54-hole score of 849, while Augusta State finished second and Auburn tied for third with Duke. Mitchell Sutton of North Carolina State and Andrew Loupe of LSU took home individual titles.
Kentucky will be back in action again April 9-10 when they host the UK Bluegrass Invitational at the University Club in Lexington.
