Fuqua Ends Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational with Top-15 Finish

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Kentucky men’s golf senior Ben Fuqua (71-74-72-217) posted an even-par score of 72 and finished the 54-hole tournament at 1-over-par and in a tie for 15th at the Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational on Sunday. As a team, the Wildcats (295-293-301-889) finished in 14th.
The top-15 finish is the third of year for Fuqua, who carded three birdies in the final round. Fuqua, a native of Danville, Ky., shot a 2-under-par on the final nine holes Sunday with all three birdies coming on the back nine. The senior’s 54-hole score of 217 is a season best.
Fuqua was followed by freshman Chase Parker (73-75-76-224), who finished the tournament tied for 53rd at 8-over-par. Parker posted two birdies in the final round and six for the entire tournament. The native of Augusta, Ga., shot a 4-over-par 76 in the final round.
Senior Jordan Blann (76-72-77-225) and sophomore Mads Kristensen (75-72-78-225) finished the tournament at 9-over-par and in a tie for 56th. Blann shot a 5-over-par 77 on the final 18 holes while Kristensen posted a 6-over-par 78. The 54-hole score of 225 is the lowest 54-hole score of the year for Kristensen.
Senior Brian Belden (78-78-76-232) wraps up the Kentucky scoring, completing the tournament at 16-over-par. Belden finished tied for 75th with junior James Kania (78-75-79-232), who played in the tournament as an individual.
The Wildcats finished nine strokes better than in-state rival Louisville. The overall team title was claimed by Auburn University with the individual title going to Ole Miss’s Jonathan Randolph, who won in a playoff.
The Wildcats return to action March 28 when they travel to Awendaw, S.C., to play in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
