Men's Golf Tied for Seventh after Round One of Schenkel Invite

STATESBORO, Ga. – The first round of the Schenkel Invitational got underway on Friday and the University of Kentucky men’s golf team is tied for seventh after carding a 6-over-par, 294. UK is 14 strokes off the leader Texas, who shot 8-under to pace the 15-team tournament field.

Junior Ben Stow led the Wildcats on the day, firing a 1-under-par, 71. The Salisbury, England native recorded a near clean score sheet, charting 15 pars, including two birdies and just one bogey. Stow is one of just 16 golfers to post an under par round and is tied for 13th, just four strokes off the overall leader.

Stephen Powers is tied for 22nd after round one, turning in a scorecard of 1-over-par, 73. The junior sank three birdies on the afternoon, including two on the front nine and one on hole No. 18 to conclude his round.

Junior Cody Martin tallied three birdies, all on the front nine, finishing at 2-over-par and is tied for 30th overall. Senior Chase Parker and sophomore Will Bishop are tied for 55th after both carding a 4-over-par, 74. Senior Joseph Barr, who is competing as an individual is also tied for 55th at 4-over.

Bishop will tee off first for the Wildcats on Saturday on hole No. 1 at 9 a.m. ET. Parker, Martin, Powers and Stow will begin their rounds following Bishop in nine minute intervals. Barr is scheduled to start his round at 10:48 a.m. ET from hole No. 10.
