UK Concludes Day One at Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s golf team concluded the first 36 holes of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C., in 17th place on Monday. Kentucky (314-290-604) will hit the course again Tuesday morning for the final round with tee times starting at 9 a.m. ET on the No. 10 tee.

The Wildcats began the tournament on a slow start, scoring an opening-round mark of 34-over-par 314. However, Kentucky responded in the second round by improving its team score by 24 strokes with a 10-over-par 290, which was the best improvement of any team.

UK was led in the first two rounds by sophomore Chase Parker (78-72-150) and freshman Cody Martin (80-70-150), who each earned low scores in the second round to sit tied for 57th at 10-over-par 150 heading into the final round. Parker began the tournament with an 8-over-par 78 before earning an impressive second-round score of 2-over-par 72. The native of Augusta, Ga., is coming off his best outing of the year when he finished tied for second at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate.

Martin, who is also coming off a solid showing at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate with a fourth-place finish, shot the lowest UK round of the day in the second round with an even-par 70. The native of Union, Ky., carded a 10-over-par 80 in the first round.

Sophomores Joseph Barr (79-73-152) and Seth Blann (77-75-152) enter the final round tied for 65th at 12-over-par 152. Barr scored a 9-over-par 79 in the first round followed by a 3-over-par 73 in the second round, while Blann earned a 7-over-par 77 in the first round and a 5-over-par 75 in the second round. Senior Brian Belden (83-76-159) is in 86th after a 13-over-par 83 in the opening round and a 6-over-par 76 in the second round.

Alabama leads the tournament at 5-over-par 565, followed by Liberty at 9-over-par 569 and Virginia at 11-over-par 571. Alabama’s Bud Cauley leads the individual leaderboard with after earning 4-under-par 66s in the first two rounds.
