Wildcats Conclude Querencia in Ninth Place
San Jose del Cabo, Mexico - Junior David Snyder carded a final round even-par 71 to lead the Kentucky men’s golf team to a ninth place finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate Tournament on Tuesday. It secures a sixth consecutive top 10 finish for the Wildcats in 2014-15.
Snyder charted a 71 in the day’s final round to lead all Wildcats. He finished the tournament at 3-over par for a 20th place finish. Snyder now has a team-leading four top 20 finishes on the year. The Somerset, Ky., native has been UK’s top-finisher in each of the two spring events.
The Wildcats outlasted two of the 11 top 50 ranked teams in the field. UK logged a 17-over par over the three-day tournament besting No. 13 Wake Forest and No. 47 Ole Miss (+19). Second-ranked Florida State turned in a 13-under par scorecard to capture the event. No. 11 Vanderbilt (-5), No. 12 South Florida (-4), No. 19 Washington (-2), No. 14 Stanford (+2), No. 35 Houston (+12) and No. 7 LSU (+12) rounded out the top 10. No. 39 Arkansas tied the Cats for ninth place.
Freshman Tyler ‘Chip’ McDaniel and sophomore Stephen Stallings tied for 25th overall on the individual leaderboard. Both players were 4-over par for the tournament. Stallings had his best round of the season with a 1-over par 72, besting a round of 73 at The Invitational at the Ocean Course. It’s also the best finish of the season for the second-year performer. McDaniel was 2-over par over the final 18 holes. He has finished in the top 25 in all but one tournament during his freshman campaign.
Fellow freshman Cooper Musselman concluded the tournament in a tie for 37th-overall. He capped the tournament with a scorecard of 7-over par. Senior Will Bishop tied for 69th overall.
Kentucky will take a few weeks off from competition before returning to the links. Up next for the Cats will be the Schenkel Invitational March 20-22.
