Matthews, Mosley Named Game Captains for Georgia

Oct. 19, 2010

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior wide receiver Chris Matthews and junior cornerback Anthony Mosley have been named game captains for the Georgia game this weekend, head coach Joker Phillips has announced.

Game captains are usually chosen on the basis of performance in the previous game. Matthews, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., had a career effort in Kentucky’s 31-28 upset victory over South Carolina, catching 12 passes for 177 yards, both career highs. Matthews’ longest reception of the game came at a key time. With USC up 28-17, the senior made a catch on a short pass pattern before breaking a tackle and rolling 38 yards into the endzone to cut the South Carolina lead to five. Matthews is second on the team in receiving this season, gathering 33 catches for 482 yards and six touchdowns.  He leads the SEC in TD catches.

Mosley had the most memorable game of his career against South Carolina, gathering two tackles, a fumble recovery and the game-clinching interception. With four seconds to go in the game, Mosley intercepted a pass in the endzone after it had been deflected by UK cornerback Cartier Rice, sealing the Wildcat win. On the year, Mosley has 16 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. The junior has two or more tackles in every game this season, including a season-high three stops against Auburn.

Matthews and Mosley will join permanent captains Randall Cobb and DeQuin Evans at the pregame coin toss.
