Murphy, Mosley Named Game Captains

Aug. 31, 2011

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- University of Kentucky senior offensive tackle Billy Joe Murphy and senior cornerback Anthony Mosley have been named game captains for Kentucky's season-opening contest against Western Kentucky University on Thursday.

Murphy and Mosley were picked by Kentucky head coach Joker Phillips because of their hard work and leadership during preseason practice. The two seniors will join senior linebacker Danny Trevathan and senior offensive lineman Stuart Hines, who are the permanent captains for the 2011 team, at the pregame coin toss.

Murphy, who tops the depth chart at right tackle, has been extremely valuable during his career at UK. The native of Gamaliel, Ky., has appeared in 33 games, making nine starts during his UK career. Last year, Murphy helped the UK offense finish fourth in the Southeastern Conference in total offense and second in fewest quarterback sacks allowed.

Mosley, who made the game-clinching interception in Kentucky's victory over top-10 ranked South Carolina last season in Commonwealth Stadium, has become a leader for the Wildcat defense. A native of Ellenwood, Ga., he has played in 18 career games for the Wildcats, including 12 starts. Last season, the senior finished second on the team in pass breakups with five and seventh on the team with 34 tackles.

Kentucky and WKU are set to kickoff at 9:15 p.m. ET on ESPNU at LP Field, the home of the National Football League's Tennessee Titans, in Nashville.
