Towns Named NBC Sports National Player of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns was tabbed the NBCSports.com National Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in two victories last week for the undefeated Wildcats.
Towns led the Wildcats in scoring, rebounds, field-goal percentage (.571), free throws (10 of 10) and blocks (four) in victories at Florida and at home against Georgia.
He began the week by earning his third career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Georgia. Towns connected on 6 of 11 shots and all three of his free-throw attempts. He also dished out three assists and had a game-high two blocks.
On the road at Florida, Towns poured in a career-high tying 19 points and added a game-high eight rebounds. He was 6 of 10 from the floor and a perfect 7 of 7 at the line. He dished out three more assists – one shy of matching a career high – while also swatting a game-high two shots.
NBC called Towns’ play this week as “the best basketball since he arrived in Lexington.”
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday when they travel to LSU for a 7 p.m. ET tip at the Pete Maravich Center. The game will air live on ESPN.
