LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After leading the Kentucky men’s basketball team to a 35-3 record in his first season as head coach, John Calipari will be on hand at the UK baseball game with No. 4 South Carolina on Friday night to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Friday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Kentucky (24-20, 7-14 Southeastern Conference) will welcome South Carolina (34-9, 16-5 SEC) for a three-game series in Lexington. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is slated for 7 p.m. ET, with the series finale scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Calipari will kick off the three-game series with the ceremonial first pitch on Friday night. The weekend will consist of several promotions, as UK fights for a berth in the 2010 SEC Baseball Tournament with the high-octane Gamecocks. The Friday and Saturday night games will also feature fireworks for any UK home runs, with the Wildcats entering the weekend ranking second in the SEC in round trippers. On Sunday, the first 100 moms in attendance will receive a flower courtesy of Kroger in honor of Mother’s Day. Also on Sunday, there will be Ice Cream Sundaes available in a collectable UK mini helmet, in addition to a postgame autograph session.
In his first season as the men’s basketball coach, Calipari led the Wildcats to the conference regular and tournament championships, with 29 wins marking the most regular-season wins in the storied history of the program. Calipari was named Rupp Cup National Coach of the Year following the season.
