Zack Brown Tabbed SEC Pitcher of the Week

April 27, 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After stretching his shutout innings pitched streak to 15.1 with seven scoreless frames at No. 5 Florida, Kentucky sophomore right-handed pitcher Zack Brown has been named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A native of Seymour, Ind., Brown fired seven shutout innings to handcuff the high-octane Florida offense that entered the weekend leading the SEC in runs scored. Brown allowed just five hits -- four singles -- striking out six. It extended Brown's scoreless innings pitched streak to 15.1 frames, combined with his seven shutout innings in a blanking of Tennessee last week. Brown's performances led UK to the first consecutive SEC series-opening shutouts in program history.

On the year, Brown has a 2.81 ERA in 67.1 innings, allowing 32 walks and 59 hits, striking out 53. He ranks 11th in the SEC in ERA, 13th in opponent average (.234) and ninth in innings pitched. Brown has worked six quality starts in 2015, owning a 4-0 record and a 0.83 ERA in those outings, allowing 30 hits in 43.1 innings.

Kentucky (25-17, 10-10 SEC) returns to action on Tuesday at No. 3 Louisville, with first pitch at Jim Patterson Stadium slated for 6 p.m.
