April 10, 2009
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Due to heavy rains in the central Kentucky area, the Southeastern Conference series-opening tilt Friday with No. 3 Georgia and the Kentucky baseball team has been cancelled, with the two teams scheduled to meet in a doubleheader Saturday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Kentucky (18-12, 4-8 SEC) will face off with the Bulldogs (26-6, 8-4 SEC) in a twin-bill, with first pitch in game one slated for 2 p.m. ET. With the second and third games of the series set to be televised by the Big Blue Sports Network, first pitch is slated for the regularly-scheduled 7 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Fans can see the game in the southeast on Fox Sports South (Insight Lexington channel 52) and locally on CWYT-TV (Insight Lexington channel 5). Both games Saturday can be heard live on the Big Blue Sports (radio), with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, calling the action. Locally the game can be heard live on WLAP 630-AM in Lexington and in Louisville on WKJK 1080-AM.
In game one, UK will send freshman right-hander Alex Meyer (1-1, 4-04 ERA) to the hill to face off with Georgia senior ace right-hander Trevor Holder (5-2, 3.48 ERA). Senior southpaw Chris Rusin (4-2, 3.83 ERA) draws the start in the second game, squaring off with Georgia right-hander Alex McRee (3-0, 2.08 ERA). Sunday's 1 p.m. ET finale will feature junior lefty James Paxton (4-2, 6.08 ERA)
Former football standout Dicky Lyons Jr., was scheduled to throw out the first pitch of the series-opening tilt. Lyons, a native of New Orleans, La., will now throw out the first pitch along with the football head coach of the offense, Joker Phillips, before Sunday's game. First pitch of Sunday's series finale is still scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Cliff Hagan Stadium. Also, the first 100 fans for Saturday's series-opening game will receive free t-shirts courtesy of weekend sponsor UK Healthcare.
Friday's tickets will be honored for the first game or second game Saturday.
