Team Records and Series Notes

  • With the win, Kentucky improves to 6-0 and Bowling Green State drops to 0-6.
  • The three wins gives UK its first series sweep of the season. UK opened the season in Conway, S.C., at the Caravelle Resort Invitational last weekend, posting three wins.
  • UK now owns a 3-1 all-time series lead between the two schools. Bowling Green State won the last previous meeting between the two schools in Lexington in 1992.
  • UK returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Morehead, Ky., to play Morehead State. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. ET and the game will be broadcast live on the Big Blue Sports Network (radio), with the Voice of UK Baseball, Neil Price, calling the action.

  • Kentucky is 4-0 when leading after six innings.
  • Today's score marks the second time this season UK has scored 10 or more runs.
  • UK extended its current winning steak to six games.
  • The 6-0 record to start the season is the best since the 2007 and 2008 teams opened the year with school-record 19-0 starts.

    Individual Notes

  • Sophomore outfielder Cory Farris got his first start of the season for UK as the designated hitter.
  • Today marks his first steal of the season. He is now 3-for-3 in his career in stolen bases.
  • Farris finished 1-for-4 in the game, beating out an infield single for his first hit of 2010.
  • Sophomore Michael Williams got his first start for UK at catcher and the eighth of his career.
  • In his first start he also recorded his first multi-hit game of his career, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and seven putouts behind the plate.
  • With two hits, Williams set a new career high.
  • Williams' double marked the second double of his career. His first was on March 28, 2009 against South Carolina.
  • Junior Lance Ray played first base for the first time this season as the Las Vegas, Nev., registered his first career start in right field Saturday.
  • Ray finished 1-for-3 with a walk.
  • Junior shortstop Taylor Black recorded a team high fourth stolen base of the year.
  • Black finished the game with a 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
  • Sophomore third sacker Andy Burns hit his second career triple, his first of this season. His first career triple came March 7, 2009 against Indiana State.
  • Burns had a 1-for-3 game, adding a walk and scoring two runs.
  • Burns has recorded a walk in three consecutive games and had five walks and one strikeout in the series with BGSU.
  • Preseason All-American Chris Bisson hit his second home run of the season in the sixth inning.
  • Bisson finished 2-for-5 with four RBI, two RBI shy of the six he charted at Mississippi State on April 19, 2009 in Starkville, Miss.
  • Bisson also hit his fourth career triple in the bottom of the eighth. It was his first triple of the season.
  • He now holds the team-high in RBI this season with 10. He led the team in 2009 with 52 RBI.
  • Kyle Jackson made his first appearance for UK as pitcher in the top of the seventh.
  • Jackson tossed 1.2 shutout innings, with two strikeouts.
  • Freshman Luke Maile made his first appearance in collegiate baseball as catcher for UK in the top of the eighth.
  • In his first career at bat, he hit his first home run for the Wildcats. The last player to hit a home run in their first at bat of their career was Gunner Glad on February 22, 2009 vs. Coastal Carolina.
  • Junior southpaw Logan Darnell picked up his first win of the season, hurling six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, walking two and striking out seven.
  • Six innings ties a career high, set Sunday in UK's win over No. 12 Coastal Carolina.
  • Darnell's seven strikeouts marks a new career high, besting the six-strikeout performance he had at CCU.
  • Darnell's win marked his first win as a starting pitcher. Entering 2010 Darnell had been used exclusively as a reliever, appearing in 43 games out of the bullpen.
  • Matt Little made his third appearance of the year coming into the game with runners on in the top of the eighth inning.
  • Little recorded his team-high second save of the year, tossing the final 1.1 innings with one strikeout and no runners allowed.
