EUGENE, Ore. – Nick Anderson is trading in his Kentucky uniform for that of Team USA while competing at the IAAF World Junior Championships at Oregon's Hayward Field this week.

Update (3:00 p.m. ET) -- Anderson advanced automatically to Wednesday's semifinal round of the 110m hurdles by winning his heat in a photo-finish where the top three finishers were seperated by .06 seconds.

Anderson recovered from an uncharacteristically slow start to clock a time of 13.61 into a -0.2 wind. He ran the fifth fastest time of the prelims.

Wednesday's semifinal is scheduled to start at 8:35 p.m. ET.

The United States is hosting an IAAF International Competition for the first time ever, and the World Junior Championships are also the first major international athletics competition to take place on home soil since the 1996 Olympics.

The 16th IAAF World Junior Championships will feature 177 member federations and the 1,758 junior athletes, ages 16-19, and run from July 22-27.

The 16th IAAF World Junior Championships at Historic Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Anderson, a freshman, earned his spot on Team USA by winning the USATF Junior Championships in the 110-meter hurdles two weeks ago.

He began competition in the preliminary round on Tuesday at approximately 2:12 p.m. ET running in the third of seven heats. The first three finishers from each heat and the next three fastest times overall will advance to Wednesday’s semifinal round.

Anderson was first across the line in 13.37 seconds (+1.7 wind), a personal best running over 39-inch hurdles (which are three inches shorter than those used in NCAA and senior-level competition) at the USATF Junior Championships. His time was the seventh fastest by an under-20 competitor in the world this year, and the fastest among American juniors.

Anderson concluded his collegiate season strong with a fourth place finish at the Southeastern Conference Championships. He also qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
