UK Throws Team Nabs Seven Regional-Qualifying Marks
All four competing Wildcats claimed marks in the men?s discus competition.
After becoming only the second Wildcat in school history to throw over 200 feet in discus competition on Thursday, Chase Madison repeated the feat on Saturday throwing a distance of 201-04. The junior finished fourth overall and as the first collegiate in the standings.
Classmate Rashaud Scott improved his fifth-best mark all-time at UK with a toss of 187-07. Senior Andy Fryman threw a distance of 184-04 to claim his mark while freshman Colin Boevers tossed a career-best mark of 170-03.
In the women?s shot put, two Cats eclipsed the regional standard. Newcomer Jennifer Svoboda placed sixth with a personal-best throw of 50-8 which ranks fourth all-time at UK. Junior Emilee Strot also earned a regional nod with a heave of 47-9. Sophomore Kristen Smith threw the shot put a distance of 43-3.25.
In the men?s hammer throw, Fryman grabbed another regional mark by pitching the weight 204-7.
Boevers wrapped up competition in the men?s shot put with a personal-best throw of 54-9.50.
On Friday evening, the Cats throws squad earned two regional-qualifying marks at the Invitational.
Both marks occurred in the women?s discus competition as junior Emilee Strot threw a distance of 169-06. Freshman Jennifer Svoboda continued her incremental season improvement with a throw of 158-10, bettering her 10th-place mark that she set on Thursday.
The Wildcats compete in two meets next weekend. Some Cats will head north to Columbus, Ohio, to compete at Ohio State?s Jesse Owens Invitational Saturday, while others will head west to Palo Alto, Calif., for Stanford?s Cardinal Invitational Sunday.
