Scott Named SEC Male Field Athlete of the Week
Scott clinched a provisional mark, used for at-large entry into the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, in the men?s weight throw with a toss of 64-10.75 on Friday. His weight throw mark stands as the second-best all-time at Kentucky behind Matt Kavanagh?s record of 65-2 set in 2000.
On Saturday, the transfer from Mesa (Ariz.) Community College earned a victory in the men?s shot put with a heave of 57-5.5; good for 10th on UK?s all-time list. Scott earned the win on his first throw of the competition and as a Wildcat.
?Rashaud set a personal record only a foot off of the school record and he is just getting started,? said assistant coach for throws Doug Reynolds. ?He is going to do great things for us.?
The UK junior also smashed the men?s discus Nutter Field House collegiate record that departed senior Gavin Ball set in 2006 with a throw of 203-04, becoming the first Wildcat to break the 200-foot mark in the indoor event.
Scott and the Wildcats travel to Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday to compete in the SEC/Big Ten Challenge. Competition begins Saturday at 11 am EST on the campus of Indiana University.
