UK Track & Field Wraps Solid Saturday at Nikoloff Invitational
CINCINNATI -- The Kentucky track and field teams had three runner-up finishes as the Wildcats wrapped up a tune-up Saturday at Cincinnati's Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.
Competing in near-freezing temperatures, Michelle Canterna's outdoor season debut was a 2015-best clearance at 12'5.5"/3.80m to place second.
Brooks Divine cleared a 2015-best height in his outdoor pole vault debut,15'5.75"/ 4.72m to place second as well.
Zack Beavin ran 14:44.51, finishing second in the 5k. Mick Iacofano ran 14:54.25 for sixth place, and Ryan Polman ran 15:00.13 to place 10th.
Dylan Rich ran a personal best 1,500-meter time of 3:58.50 to win his heat, and finish 10th overall. Tim Layten ran 3:59.20, his best performance in a Kentucky uniform, and Raine Wireman ran 4:00.50 to finish 12th and 14th respectively. Luke Sharkey ran 4:07.10.
The majority of the Kentucky track and field teams' were off this week, continuing to train for the outdoor season with one of the first major meets of the year -- the Florida Relays coming up next weekend.
Earlier this week the UK women's team was ranked preseason No. 5, while the men checked in at No. 22 in the preseason rankings.
