Greg Ferrucci Named SEC Diver of the Week
Nov. 20, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior diver Greg Ferrucci was named SEC Male Diver of the Week for the second time in the 2012-13 season on Tuesday. Ferrucci swept all three diving events on the men’s side at the Volunteer Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn., last weekend to help him earn the honor.
"That is a nice honor,” said Kentucky head diving coach Ted Hautau. “Greg had a good, consistent meet against some strong competition from Tennessee. It was good to get a platform competition at this point of the season and I was pleased to see him compete a few new, harder dives with success."
Going up against Tennessee for the second time this season, Ferrucci picked up an individual win all three days during the championship-format meet at the Jones Aquatic Center.
Day one saw Ferrucci pick up a win on the 1-meter springboard, owning the field with a final score of 369.95. Ferrucci won the event by 28.3 points over the second-place opponent.
On Day 2 of the Volunteer Invitational, Ferrucci stepped up to the 3-meter springboard and came away with yet another victory. In a much smaller margin of victory (3.45), Ferrucci earned another victory, scoring 410.90 to earn his second win in as many days.
On the third day of the meet, Kentucky divers competed on the platform for the first time this season. Once more it was Ferrucci setting the tone, scoring a 383.35 to come out on top of the field for the third time in the meet.
With three wins in three days, Ferrucci earned his second meet sweep of the season to propel him to his second SEC Male Diver of the Week Award in three weeks and his sixth in his last two seasons.
