Feb. 25, 2012
ATHENS, Ga. - Senior Tyler Reed highlighted day one at the Bulldog Last Chance meet on Saturday afternoon as schools from around the country look to get last-minute automatic qualifiers into the NCAA Championships.
Reed swam a 43.08 in the 100-freestyle, placing him in the B-cut time slot for NCAA qualifications. Reed also participated in UK's relay team of the 200-medley relay in which Reed swam the final leg of the event en route to a final time of 1:27.43 which is a B-cut time by NCAA standards.
"We had some good swims today," UK head coach Gary Conelly said. "The highlight for us was Tyler Reed with a 43.08. I think that puts him in a good spot for being selected for the NCAA. Hopefully Lucas Gerotto can do the same for us tomorrow by shaving some time off his 100-fly time."
In the 100-butterfly on Saturday, Gerotto swam a 47.38 with his first split being a 22.03, which was the fastest in the heat by over a tenth of a second. Gerotto had the fastest time for the 100-fly on Saturday.
The final day of this last-chance meet will be on Sunday in Athens, Ga., with Kentucky looking to qualify swimmers for the NCAA Championship.
