Rifle Earns Bevy of All-America Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Winners of the 2010-11 NCAA Championship, the Kentucky rifle team has had five student-athletes honored with All-America accolades, it was announced by UK head coach Harry Mullins on Wednesday.

"Obviously this was a magical season for us and to have so many of our shooters earn postseason honors is very special," Mullins said. "We had a group of student-athletes that brought a dedicated, hard-working energy to the team and they are all deserving of All-America honors."

Kentucky landed five different players in the All-America accolades, led by Henri Junghänel, who was named first team All-America in both smallbore and air rifle. Freshman Emily Holsopple also earned first-team All-America accolades in air rifle.

"Henri and Emily had great years," Mullins said. "It can be challenging to step into a new environment and compete at the level they both did and I am very proud of all of their accomplishments. They were a joy to be around and really made coaching them enjoyable. We can't wait to get to work with them next year."

Senior Logan Fox was honored with second-team accolades in smallbore, along with NCAA Championship hero Heather Greathouse and Holsopple. The star of the 2010-11 NCAA Championship run, Ethan Settlemires, was named NCAA Shooter of the Match in addition to earning second-team All-America honors in air rifle.

"Everyone had great outings at the NCAA Championships, but Heather and Ethan really shined and for Ethan to win Shooter of the Match is a great accomplishment," Mullins said. "We were all so proud of them in stepping up in such a key, pressure-filled situation. It was also an honor to watch Logan develop over the last four years. He began the season with the goal of finish his senior year with a national championship for the team and earning All-America accolades for himself. It is great that he was able to accomplish both."

In order to achieve All-America status, shooters have to achieve an average that ranks them in the top percentage of competing student athletes throughout the season.
