OXFORD, Miss. -- Kentucky rifle senior Ashley Jackson has been named Great American Rifle Conference Shooter of the Year, it was announced.

Jackson is one of seven UK shooters to be tabbed all-conference, becoming just the fourth UK shooter in school history to earn GARC Shooter of the Year accolades. Jackson was honored on the first team in both smallbore, air rifle and the combined categories. Jackson also became the third UK shooter since 1998 to earn GARC Outstanding Senior honors. Freshman Katie Fretts was named GARC Rookie of the Year, the fifth shooter in school history to earn the honor.

“We are all really proud of Ashley,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “She has had an amazing senior season and her leadership has been vital to the team. Katie steps into a long line of immediate impact rookies for us and her winning rookie of the year honors speaks to her talents and work ethic. We are excited to get back out on the range at the NCAAs in a few weeks.”

On the smallbore team, Jackson and senior Jen Pason were tabbed to the first-team, while senior Tom Csenge and 2008-09 GARC Rookie of the Year Ethan Settlemires were selected to the second team.

In air rifle, Jackson was UK’s lone representative on the first team while Fretts, Csenge and sophomore Megan English were listed on the second team. Pason and Logan Fox earned honorable mention honors. Jackson was named to the first-team in the combined categories, with Cenge and Pason earning second-team honors and Fretts and Settlemires earning honorable mention accolades.
