UK Rifle Travels to GARC Championships
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Kentucky rifle team will compete in the Great American Rifle Conference Championships, hosted by Ole Miss Saturday and Sunday at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
Kentucky (8-3) is coming off a 4646 performance at the NCAA qualifying round, hosted by the Wildcats at UK’s Barker Hall last weekend. UK got strong outings from Ashley Jackson and sophomore Megan English, with English totaling a career-high 593 in air rifle.
“This should be an exciting weekend,” UK head coach Harry Mullins. “We are hopeful last weekend showed indications that we are back on the uphill swing. We have had some real good training sessions this week and month and it is time for those to start coming through and start showing what we are capable of in matches and not just in training. That is a hurdle we are trying to get over.”
Kentucky will return to action at the NCAA Championships, hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, in mid March.
“Ole miss is a tough range to shoot on and typically scores are lower,” Mullins said. “It is still one of the best ranges in the country overall in terms of setup. This should be exciting with so many good teams traveling to the NCAA championships. It will be a great test for the NCAAs. This should be exciting and we are looking forward to a fun-filled 48 hours.”
Competition commences at 7:30 a.m. ET Saturday and runs through Sunday afternoon. The smallbore competition begins Saturday morning with the finals for starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. The air rifle will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET Saturday with the finals beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday.
