COLUMBUS, Ohio. – The sixth-ranked Kentucky rifle team will look to build momentum to take into a tough stretch of matches, and beyond toward postseason, when it travels to Ohio State on Sunday.
The smallbore competition from the Hugh W. Wylie Range will begin at 9 a.m. ET. Air rifle will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET. The second relays of smallbore and air rifle will get under way at approximately 1:30 and 4 p.m.
The match can be viewed live via ohiostatebuckeyes.com.
“Another test,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “Another school on the road. We’re looking to continue on where we have been. It’s going to be a little different team combination.
“Switching the team up gives others the opportunity to show what they’ve been working on in training. I think we’re going to see some really good things.”
N.C. State and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy will also compete at Ohio State on Sunday.
Kentucky has begun the calendar year in strong fashion, having posted a season high 4688 at Ole Miss two weeks ago. Kentucky posted a 4679 last weekend at the Withrow Invitational.
“It’s going to be a tough test for Connor (Davis) coming off a 592 in smallbore,” Mullins said. “He will try to repeat that performance, tying a school record. I think he’s been working really hard in practice.”
The Ohio State match will be the first of UK’s two remaining regular-season competitions before NCAA Qualifiers.
“I also think with what the others have been doing in training, I’d like to see us perform close to the level that we’ve been training at,” Mullins said. “I think if we do that then we will be happy.”
Kentucky will host the top-ranked defending National Champion West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday, Feb. 7.
