Rifle Hosts Army Marksmanship Unit

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Coming off a pair of impressive wins over conference foes Memphis and Ole Miss, the Kentucky rifle team will return to action, hosting the Army Marksmanship Unit in an exhibition match, set for Tuesday at Barker Hall.

Kentucky (9-1) picked up wins over Ole Miss and Memphis last time out and will return to regular-season action with the finale of the regular-season schedule, hosting powerhouse West Virginia on Feb. 5 at Barker Hall.

“We are excited to get back out on the range in a competitive situation,” UK head coach Harry Mullins said. “The Army Marksmanship Unit is comprised of some really good shooters and we worked out a deal that would allow them to come down here and shoot against us. It will be beneficial to our shooters, to be on the line in a competitive environment before the West Virginia match.”

The match with the Army Marksmanship Unit will feature just air rifle and will be counted as just an exhibition, or scrimmage match.

“After shooting three matches in a four-day span and having a 500-mile trip in between, our shooters were glad to get back to their home,” Mullins said. “Now that they have had some time to practice on the range, we are eager to get them on the line and shooting against a tough opponent. This will be a good opportunity for our team to work hard at getting better before the West Virginia match.”
