McCaslin’s Steeplechase Win Kicks Off Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio –Kentucky track and field senior Caroline McCaslin picked up her first race win of the year to begin the Jesse Owens Classic in the athletics legend’s namesake stadium on the Ohio State campus Friday.

McCaslin ran 10:26.96, nearly three seconds ahead of second place.

Saturday will get started with the men’s pole vault at 10 a.m. and track events are slated to go off at noon.

Kentucky has just middle distance and distance runners entered this weekend so UK’s Saturday won’t start until 2:40 p.m. ET.

More than 30 teams are entered in the meet including the host, Michigan State, Michigan, Cincinnati and a plethora of others.

The Kentucky women’s team is ranked No. 3 and the men’s team is ranked No. 22 in this week’s USTFCCCA Computer Rankings.

UK had competitors at the Texas Invitational last weekend, and will send another diverse group to Baton Rouge next weekend to contest the Southeastern Conference Relays, being held a fortnight before the SEC Championships.

UK’s women’s team won the LSU Relays – the SEC Relays predecessor – a year ago.
