Griffin Joiner Called Into USA Softball National Team Camp

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Former University of Kentucky softball player, and current graduate assistant, Griffin Joiner, has received an invitation to the 2017 USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Camp, it was announced by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and USA Softball on Wednesday.

Slated to be held at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Florida, the Women’s National Team (WNT) Selection Camp will be held January 1-5, 2017.  Additional athletes may be invited to the USA Softball WNT and JWNT Selection Camps at a later date. 

During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball Women’s National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC).  For the WNT, athletes who make the 2017 USA Softball WNT roster will be competing at a Pan American Games/World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championship Qualifier in Florida, where the U.S. will look to qualify for the 2018 WBSC Women’s World Championship to be held in Chiba, Japan and the 2019 Pan American Games to be held in Lima, Peru.

Joiner, a former All-Southeastern Conference performer and Senior CLASS Award finalist at UK, was a career .303 hitter in the Blue and White, starting in 249 games behind the plate for Kentucky in her four years. She scored 103 runs, had 143 RBI and 35 home runs during her career, which also saw her play on college softball’s biggest state, the Women’s College World Series, in her junior season.
