UK Places 50 Student-Athletes Named to SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- A total of 50 University of Kentucky student-athletes have been named to the 2009 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced Thursday.
Kentucky placed 50 total student-athletes on the annual SEC Academic Honor Roll, with baseball and women's swimming leading the way with seven honorees. Softball contributed six freshmen on the listing, with men's swimming and women's soccer totaling five selections. Volleyball (3), men's golf (3), women's golf (3), women's tennis (2), men's track (2) and gymnastics (2) each totaled multiple selections.
Earlier in the July, the SEC office announced 56 Kentucky selections for the annual SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, including a UK-high 17 selections from women's track, marking the third consecutive year, UK has placed 50 or more on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
To be eligible, each student-athlete must have: 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The 2009 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2008-09 academic calendar.
