We look forward to seeing you at camp. — University of Kentucky Athletic Training Staff
Student athletic trainers are a vital part of the sports medicine team. Our goal is to introduce the high school student to the field of athletic training/sports medicine through presentations, lectures, and hands-on labs provided by a variety of certified athletic trainers. At camp the student will learn about the anatomy in regards to muscles and bone structure, taping/treatment of common athletic injuries and basic injury evaluation. The camper will learn about important record keeping, athletic training room necessities, and game procedures. We'll also have discussions and explore athletic training and other sports medicine careers. By attending this camp, the high school student who has little or no previous athletic training experience will build their confidence and improve their athletic training ability. An emphasis will be placed each day on the prevention, recognition, treatment, and rehabilitation of common athletic injuries. The camper will be introduced to a cadaver lab and increase their awareness of emergency procedures and heat illness. The program will address the current concepts in sports medicine.
