Evan White Named SEC Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- After going 9-for-12 at the plate in Kentucky’s series sweep to open its home weekend schedule, sophomore first baseman/outfielder Evan White has been named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A native of Gahanna, Ohio, White went 9-for-12 during the three-game sweep, with eight RBI, a triple, homer and four steals, adding three walks. He strolled to the plate 15 times on the series, reaching 12 times.

A 6-foot-3, 200-pound left-handed throwing, right-handed hitting first baseman/centerfielder, White had three hits in the series opener, including his first homer of the year, adding a steal. In the second game, White went 4-for-4 to tie his career high in hits, charting four RBI, a triple, two walks and a steal. In the series finale, UK faced an eight-run hole after the top of the third inning and White went to work, driving in three of UK’s nine runs in the comeback win, drawing a walk and stealing two bags.

On the year, White – a 2015 Freshman All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive Team selection – has hit .386 (17-for-44) with eight runs, three doubles, one triple, one homer and 12 RBI, stealing five bases. In his career, White has a .330 average (86-for-261) with 15 doubles, two triples, three homers and 40 RBI, stealing eight bases.

Kentucky (7-3) opens a five-game week with a pair of midweek tilts, hosting Cincinnati on Tuesday and Murray State on Wednesday at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
