Callum Irving & Paul Sime Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky soccer players Callum Irving and Paul Sime were named to the Conference USA All-Academic team on Wednesday.

Irving, a 3.8 history student, was named to the All-Academic team for the second year in a row.

Kentucky placed multiple players on the C-USA All-Academic team for the first time since 2009.

Irving added a second C-USA All-Academic team selection to his already-impressive mantle of awards both in the classroom and on the field.

Last season he was named both an All-American on the field and a Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

On Tuesday he repeated as C-USA Player of the Year, Defensive MVP, Golden Glove Award winner and as a first team All-Conference selection.

“Callum is a great student because truly enjoys his major and takes pride in his work,” UK Director of Advising Services Mike Haley said. “He is driven academically not only because he has a great work ethic but because he values his education and any academic opportunity.”

This season Irving has earned a 0.57 goals-against average (8th, NCAA) and an .821 save percentage (20th, NCAA) through all 17 matches played, totaling nine shutouts. Seven of the clean sheets came against C-USA opponents as he notched a 0.12 goals-against average, allowing just one goal in eight conference matches (773:45 minutes).

Sime is a 4.0 political science major whose academic accomplishments are made all the more impressive by the fact that English isn’t his first language. Sime is from Guadeloupe where French is the primary language.

“Paul is a model student,” Haley said. “He pursues any and all academic opportunities because he has an open mind and a thirst for educational experiences.  His effort and interest in school extend well beyond completing requirements.  His primary goal is not grades, it is knowledge and this results in perfect grades.”

Sime is a regular starter as a holding midfielder in front of the nation’s sixth best statistical defense.

Sime was a 2013-14 and 2014-15 C-USA Academic Medalist and Honor Roll member and also a 2014-15 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.
