Adachi and Sutjiadi Advance to Semifinals of ITA Indoor Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. – After yesterday’s close battle against Ohio State at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, the No. 9 doubles pairing of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi cruised to victory over No. 54 Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock of Florida.  The pair will continue with the semifinals tomorrow.

Kentucky defeated the Gators 6-2 in the first set before finishing off the match with a 6-4 win in the second set.  Kuhlman and Woolcock had advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-7(5), 10-4 win over Virginia’s No. 13 Julia Elbaba and Skylar Morton.

“I am so proud of them,” remarked head coach Carlos Dradá.  “They were able to stay in the present in order to manage the pressure.  We hope to put this experience to great use tomorrow and the rest of the season.”

The two Wildcats are continuing on the path of All-Americans Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk, who went on to play in the semifinals of the tournament in 2006.  Adachi and Sutjiadi hope to better the 2006 Wildcats, who fell in the semis, and advance to the finals since 1988 when Sonia Hahn and Tamaki Takagi fought their way to the championship game.
