Andru Phillips Selected by Giants in Third Round of NFL Draft

Kentucky junior defensive back Andru Phillips was chosen in the third round by the New York Giants as the 70th overall pick in the 2024 National Football League Draft, it was announced Friday in Detroit.

Phillips, a native of Mauldin, South Carolina, was a three-year letter winner who played in 38 career games with 16 starts for the Wildcats. He totaled 82 career tackles along with 10 pass breakups and 3.0 tackles for loss.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound corner declared for the draft after an impressive junior season that saw him chart 47 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss and five pass breakups (second on the team).

Phillips graduated in December 2023 with a degree in integrated strategic communication.

The 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light kicked off Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET with the first round. Rounds 2-3 are Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. ET and Rounds 4-7 are Saturday, April 27 at noon ET in Detroit’s downtown Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza. All rounds will be covered on NFL Network, NFL+, the NFL Channel, ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.

 Kentucky/NFL Draft Notes:

  • This is the sixth straight year UK has had at least one player taken in the first three rounds, the first time that has happened since the 1975-80 drafts.
  • Phillips is the 25th player drafted who played under head coach Mark Stoops at Kentucky. Twenty-one of those selections have come in the last six drafts.
  • Phillips is the sixth UK defensive back selected since 2019 (Lonnie Johnson Jr., Mike Edwards, Kelvin Joseph, Brandin Echols, Carrington Valentine).
  • There have been 11 other Wildcats who have been drafted by the Giants’ franchise in Gene Myers (1937), Jim Little (1945), Dick Hensley (1949), Jim Mackenzie (1952), Dick Moloney (1956), Dave Roller (1971), Dan Fowler (1979), George Adams (1985), Andre’ Woodson (2008), George Asafo-Adjei (2019) and Wan’Dale Robinson (2022).
