Kentucky Falls at No. 9 LSU on Sunday

Ajae Petty had 13 points and 15 rebounds, her 16th double-double of the season, but it was not enough as the Kentucky women’s basketball team lost at No. 9 LSU 77-56 on Sunday inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

Kentucky got 14 points from both Amiya Jenkins and Saniah Tyler. However, the Cats committed 23 turnovers that LSU turned into 26 points.

LSU jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before Kentucky got an Jenkins basket. The Tigers would lead 8-2 before UK got a basket and free throw from Eniya Russell to cut the deficit to 8-5. However, LSU would score the next 10 points and the Tigers would lead 20-9 after one quarter.

Early in the second quarter, the Cats were able to get within nine on a Tyler three. LSU scored the next eight points to lead 31-14 before UK mounted a run to close the half. The Cats went on a 13-2 run, sparked by five points from Tyler, to cut the deficit to 33-27 at the half.

In the third quarter, LSU scored the first four points before a Jenkins layup made it 37-29. The Tigers responded with a 13-2 run to stretch the lead to 50-31. Kentucky was able to score six in a row late in the period to get within 13 but LSU led 60-45 after three quarters.

Kentucky would fight back in the fourth quarter, but the Cats would get no closer than 11 points, 64-53.

The Cats return to action on Wednesday in the SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina. The time and the opponent are still to be determined.
