Young Talent Shines in Match at Tennessee

by Chris Shoals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee scored two first half goals, and a late tally in the second half to push past Kentucky 3-0 on Sunday night at Regal Stadium.

With the loss, Kentucky falls to 5-5-0 overall and suffers its first loss of the season in Southeastern Conference play. Tennessee remains unbeaten and is now 9-0-0 on the year.

UK will host No. 2 South Carolina on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET from the Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington. The match will be a ‘White Out’.

With five projected starters out due to injury, UK fought back for 10 shots in the match and two shots on goal. The Wildcats were led by Foster Ignoffo, who launched three shots, and had UK’s best scoring chance in the 14th minute on a run against the grain of play, shooting back across her body – but it was swiped off the line by the UT defense.

Tennessee scored the opening goal of the match in the 17th minute through Mary Alice Vignola’s second of the season on endline service that was brought back across the face of goal for the strike.

The Vols doubled their lead on the stroke of a half an hour though Khadija Shaw’s seventh of the season. Shaw would then score her eighth of the season in the 88th minute.
